Rutuja Bhosale bows out of women’s doubles event at WTA 1000 Dubai Tennis Championships

DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES: Rutuja Bhosale and her Thai partner Peangtarn Plipuech had to bow out of the women’s doubles event in the round of 16 stage of the ongoing Dubai Tennis Championships on Wednesday, February 18. They were beaten by Aleksandra Krunic (Serbia) and Anna Danilina (Kazakhstan) 3-6, 6-7.

This tournament was a WTA1000 event, in which Bhosale made her debut. Earlier, in the round of 32 stage on February 17, the Bhosale-Plipuech duo defeated Japan’s Eri Hozumi and Chinese Taipei’s Fang-Hsien Wu 7-5, 6-2 to reach the round of 16. Bhosale is currently ranked 142nd in the WTA rankings.

Rutuja Bhosale and Peangtarn Plipuech had an impressive 53% winning rate on the second serve

In their round of 16 match, Bhosale-Plipuech made three double faults while serving, which cost them. Despite this, their first serve percentage was 71%, only two per cent less than their opponents. Most importantly, their winning rate on the second serve was an impressive 53%, whereas their opponents’ was a bleak 44%.

What went against Rutuja Bhosale and her partner was the fact that they could not win the tiebreaker in the second set, and this added to their inability to win more than 39 service points. In comparison, Krunic-Danilina won 43. The latter duo also won 9 service games, whereas the India-Thai pair could manage a mere 7.
