LONDON, ENGLAND: Former Chelsea and Arsenal player Emmanuel Petit has categorically asked Cesc Fabregas to stay away from coming to Stamford Bridge, should the opportunity arise in the future. Fabregas is currently the head coach of Italian club Como, who are ranked fifth in the Serie A table.

Como are also fighting for a UEFA Champions League spot next season. According to Metro UK, Petit mentioned that Fabregas must go elsewhere, presumably Barcelona, if such a chance falls his way, and not London. The Frenchman also went as far as to say that Chelsea was a ‘mess.’

“Cesc Fabregas to Chelsea? No, no, no. If you have to choose between Chelsea and Barcelona, definitely you go to Barcelona, not Chelsea. Chelsea is a mess. It’s a mess. It’s a nightmare for managers, it’s kind of a nightmare as well for the players, actually. You will find more serenity even if you will face a lot of pressure, at Barcelona,” said Petit.

“But he’ll have the chance to be present in La Liga every single season to win the title over there, but as well you have the chance to compete at the highest level in the Champions League, too. Fabregas going back to Barcelona would make sense. I think Spanish managers are probably the best actually, on the market: Pep Guardiola, Unai Emery, Xabi Alonso, Luis Enrique, Fabregas,” he added.

“Italian managers were among the best for a decade, after that it was Portuguese managers, and now it’s Spanish. Where are the French? I have no idea. We have very good players, but not so good managers. It’s kind of the same with England,” Petit continued.

“Fabregas’ story is not over yet” – Former Chelsea player Emmanuel Petit

Chelsea have struggled of late, losing their last five Premier League matches without even getting onto the scoresheet. Current manager Liam Rosenior’s position was widely discussed, and he was handed the sack soon after their recent 0-3 loss away from home at Brighton and Hove Albion, a game in which they took no shots on target.

This has, in turn, brought rumours of Fabregas’ willingness to arrive in London to turn the Blues‘ fortunes around. They are now ranked eighth in the league table, with hopes of making it to the Champions League having all but evaporated. Calum MacFarlane has been appointed their interim manager, with Rosenior having served just over three months of his six-year contract.

“I think Fabregas’ story is not over yet. Como has come from nowhere. Nobody knew about Como a couple of years ago. And now they are very close to playing in the Champions League next season. If he has the chance to play in the Champions League next season with Como, that reminds me of Xabi Alonso when he left Bayern Leverkusen,” said Petit.

“He went to Real Madrid and his club was in the Champions League. For me, the question is very easy to ask. If Fabregas thinks that he cannot take Como any further, maybe it’s time for him to leave the club and to go somewhere else,” he signed off.
