HYDERABAD, INDIA: Former Hyderabad cricketer Bodugum Akhilesh Reddy was banned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for eight years on charges of match-fixing and corruption. Reddy, who has played four T20Is for the United States of America, was found guilty by an ICC Anti-Corruption Tribunal on Monday, August 3.
“USA player Bodugum Akhilesh Reddy has been banned from all cricket for eight years after he was found guilty by an ICC Anti-Corruption Tribunal of breaching three counts of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code,” the ICC said.
The charges against Akhilesh Reddy are with regard to the 2025 Abu Dhabi T10 League, where he had earlier been accused of trying to influence the outcome of a match by improper means. He was also accused of trying to fix a game by persuading or intentionally facilitating a teammate to do so.
Most importantly, when charged, Reddy allegedly deleted all data and messages from his mobile devices, which greatly hampered the inquiry and proved detrimental to its functioning. The off-spinner represented Hyderabad sporadically at the Under-19 level before moving to the USA in search of greener pastures.
Akhilesh Reddy found guilty on three corruption charges by the ICC
The ICC found Akhilesh Reddy guilty on the following counts:
Article 2.1.1: Attempting to fix, contrive, or otherwise improperly influence the result, progress, conduct, or other aspect of matches in the ADT10 2025.
Article 2.1.4: Soliciting, inducing, enticing, instructing, persuading, encouraging, or intentionally facilitating another participant to breach Article 2.1.1 of the Code in one or more matches during the tournament.
Article 2.4.7: Obstructing the DACO’s investigation through the deletion of data and messages from a mobile device which may have been relevant to the inquiry.
Reddy’s fall from grace puts the Hyderabad cricket fraternity to shame, which has consistently produced players of integrity. At 26, being banned for corruption for eight years will take his prime years away, but no punishment is severe enough for men of dishonest and dubious natures who disgrace themselves and their families with their misconduct.
