Iconic hockey midfielder Manpreet Singh left out of FIH Pro League probables

ROURKELA, INDIA: In a shocking move, veteran midfielder Manpreet Singh was left out by India from the 33-member probables list ahead of their FIH Pro League games against Argentina and Belgium from February 10 to 15. Along with Manpreet, Krishan Bahadur Pathak and Dilpreet Singh were also excluded.

Manpreet, with 411 international caps, was on his way to becoming India’s most-capped player after Dilip Tirkey (412), but his journey has been brutally cut short. He has skippered India in the Champions Trophy as well as both Asian and Olympic Games in the past.

Manpreet has won four gold medals in the Champions Trophy, while also picking up two gold medals each at the Asian Games and Asia Cup. In the all-important Olympics, he won a bronze medal each in the 2020 and 2024 Games, held in Tokyo and Paris, respectively. He was India’s captain in the former edition.
