NEW DELHI, INDIA: Indian football continues to search for the next generation of coaches capable of delivering consistent success across age groups and competitions. At just 33 years of age, Ravi Kumar Punia is already building a résumé that places him among the country’s most promising football coaches.
The 2025-26 season has been another remarkable chapter in Punia’s coaching journey. Guiding teams across national and club competitions, he secured four major podium finishes, including two championship titles. Punia led Uttar Pradesh to the Sub Junior Girls’ National Football Championship 2025-26 title, helping the state claim the gold medal.
He followed it up with a silver medal in the Dr Talimeren Ao Junior Girls’ National Football Championship 2025-26 and a bronze medal in the prestigious 30th Senior Women’s National Football Championship for the Rajmata Jijabai Trophy 2025-26. His biggest achievement of the season came at the club level, where he guided HOPS FC to the Indian Women’s League 2 (IWL 2) title, securing promotion and further strengthening the club’s position in Indian women’s football.
What makes Ravi Kumar Punia’s achievements particularly noteworthy is his ability to consistently deliver results across different age groups, competitive levels, and footballing environments. His success as a coach has been built over several years. In 2022, he guided Dadra and Nagar Haveli to the Junior Girls’ National Football Championship title.
During his tenure with Haryana, he secured a runner-up finish in the Rajmata Jijabai Trophy in 2023-24 before following it up with a bronze medal finish in 2024-25. Since joining Uttar Pradesh football, Punia has continued his impressive run, helping the state win the Sub Junior Girls’ National Football Championship (Tier 2) title in 2025, while also achieving podium finishes at both junior and senior national competitions.

Before making a name for himself on the sidelines, Ravi Kumar Punia also enjoyed success as a player. He was part of the University of Rajasthan team that won the All India Inter-University Football Championship in 2016. Later, he was also successful with Rajasthan United, winning the I-League Qualifiers in 2021. Reflecting on his journey, Punia said that the recent achievements are only the beginning of a much bigger mission.
“Every medal and every title is special because it represents the hard work of players, support staff, and everyone involved in the process. I have been fortunate to work with talented footballers and committed organisations throughout my journey. These achievements motivate me to work even harder and continue contributing to Indian football,” said Ravi Kumar Punia.
Despite winning multiple national medals and leading HOPS FC to the IWL 2 title, the ambitious coach has already set his sights on bigger challenges.
“The immediate target is to win the Indian Women’s League. Indian women’s football has immense potential, and I believe our players can compete with the best when provided with the right environment, coaching, and opportunities. Winning the top division is the next goal, and we are committed to working towards it,” he added.

Ravi Kumar Punia also spoke about his long-term dream for Indian football, one that extends far beyond domestic success.
“My biggest dream is to see India win the FIFA Women’s World Cup one day. It may sound ambitious, but every major football nation started with a dream and a long-term vision. We need to continue investing in grassroots football, player development, coaching education, and women’s football. If we stay committed to that process, Indian football can achieve things that many people currently think are impossible,” he said.
At an age when many coaches are only beginning their careers, Punia has already collected national titles, national medals, and club success at the highest levels of Indian women’s football. More importantly, he has established a reputation for developing players, building competitive teams, and delivering consistent results.

Ravi Kumar Punia also acknowledged the role played by the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), where he currently serves under the sports quota, in helping him balance his responsibilities with his football ambitions.
