BARCELONA, SPAIN: Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has spoken about how challenging it is to win the UEFA Champions League. Talking to Brazilian legend Romario on his YouTube channel (as reported by Barca Universal), Lewandowski mentioned that simply being in good shape is not enough.

The Polish attacker reinforced the notion that a club has to go through several rounds of matches before competing in the knockout stages of the Champions League. He also mentioned that since Barca have not made it to the semifinals yet, it is pointless to speak about lifting the title.

“Winning the Champions League is, of course, not easy. Even if you think you’re in good shape and the team is doing well, there are still many games to play. I think we can talk about winning the Champions League if we’re playing in the semi-finals, because before that, it doesn’t make sense. A lot can happen in football. A week can change a lot,” said Lewandowski.

Lewandowski, who arrived in Camp Nou from Bayern Munich in the 2022 summer transfer window, already won the UEFA Champions League with the Bavarians in 2019-20. However, he is yet to do so with the Catalans. Barcelona recently played out a 1-1 draw away from home against Newcastle United in the first leg of the round of 16 stage of the tournament.

“We try to maintain our high level until the end of the season. I hope we don’t have many injuries and that we can all be on the field for the most important part of the season. In football, it is also important to be in the right place at the right time and to perform well,” he added.

Barca are on top of La Liga with 67 points currently, but have everything to play for in the second leg of the R16 with the Magpies, at home, on March 18. Prior to that, they have a fairly easy encounter with 19th-ranked Levante in La Liga on March 15. Lewandowski’s own form has been fine this season, with 14 goals across all competitions.
