DELHI, INDIA: The All India Tennis Association (AITA) announced on Wednesday, December 3 that India’s Davis Cup captain Rohit Rajpal will be given an extended tenure. He will now remain in charge till 31 December 2026. Coach Ashutosh Sharma’s services have also been held on to.
India are slated to take on the Netherlands at home in the Davis Cup Qualifiers in February. While the venue has not been finalised yet, the Tribune has learnt that Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Karnataka have expressed interest in hosting.
In his new role, Rajpal will oversee India’s preparations for the Qualifiers while also aiming to qualify for the Finals. A former player, Rajpal, 54, played in one Davis Cup tie for the country in 1990 against South Korea’s Kim Jae-sik, which he lost. He has been India’s Davis Cup captain since taking over from the iconic Mahesh Bhupathi in 2019.
