GOLD COAST, AUSTRALIA: India defeated Australia by 48 runs in the fourth T20I of the ongoing five-match series between the two teams, at the Carrara Oval on the Gold Coast on Thursday, November 6. The visitors batted first in this encounter and put up a decent total of 167-8 on the board.
Openers Shubman Gill (46) and Abhishek Sharma (28) flourished for India while all-rounder Axar Patel chipped in with an 11-ball 21 to help his team in the slog overs. Seamer Nathan Ellis, always a threatening presence in the middle overs, returned with figures of 3-21 in his quota of four overs, and was Australia’s most successful bowler.
In response, Australia got off to a good start, with opener Matthew Short (25) only being sent back in the fifth over after he and Mitchell Marsh had added 37 runs to the total. No other Australian batter could convert their starts into big scores, and skipper Marsh was their highest scorer with a 24-ball 30.

The visitors kept chipping away at the Kangaroos, with off-spinner Washington Sundar wiping the tail up with three wickets. The Aussies seemed to be in control over the game till the 15th over, but once Glenn Maxwell was dismissed by mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy, their downfall began.
At one point, the hosts were 116-6, and then, strangely enough, they ended up being all out for the addition of just three more runs, for 119. Zooming out, Australia lost their last five wickets for just 16 runs. With this victory, India lead the five-match series 2-1 after the first game had to be abandoned due to rain. The fifth match will be played at the Gabba in Brisbane on Saturday, November 8.
